9AM seems to be the norm. Lots of trimmiing, cutting and some arrowing so loppers, machete stapler. Anyone have a Billy Goat 24" walk behind bush hog or DR trimmer? Quads help beat in trail also. Bridge building progressing nicely. Jim.

Noticed on bridges up here, they attach a 2x4 flat on both sides of it to keep wheels from sliding off edge. I also prefer to paint both sides orange to help see the outline. BUSHHOG!!!!!! Sound like Mark Clay!!!! Why not sharpen some scissors and cut the little weeds too!

Great showing today ! 14 club members - wow. Bridges are complete. Trail is getting burned in. Jim Harker led an outstanding mowing team of Paul, Keith, Rick, Nate 1 and Nate 2. It's like riding on a golf course. Come on out. Jim needs some more help on Sun if you are ready to jump in.

Last meeting before our hare scramble tonight. Anyone who will be helping with the next couple of work weeks and the event should really attend tonight. There is quite a bit of last minute work to be done , especially with the recent rains. This is also the time when job assignments for the event need to be locked in. Section leaders need to pin down the people helping out in their sections and coordinate with other section leaders and the trail boss (Brad Stanton). Admin also needs to get commitments from their helpers to avoid a last minute shortage of hands. I am also trying to coordinate a laptop and Google GPS map of the course for tonight and put it up on the big screen to help everyone get a better idea of the layout. May or maynot happen at this point. See you all tonight.

A little background information may be helpful for those who are not familiar with the story involving Barry and the club's GoPro camera. A while ago, when Barry was still a pup, he went riding in Osceola with his elders: his dad Tim and that reckless leader Mundy. In a beautiful (dry) day the three take off on their orange machines, feeling pretty frisky. Barry, the techno whiz, had the camera on his helmet. Little he knew about "Osceola's Curse". That is an Indian legend about which I wrote extensively in the previous forum. In a nutshell, the forest is named after Indian Chief Osceola, who ended up being a sore loser in his battle against the US federal government. The man went to his grave with a chip on his shoulder (and justifiably so). Since of all club members Mundy is the one who spent the most time in the forest (rumor has it he was originally raised there by the bears- and his manners would attest to that ) he ended up raising the wrath of the ghost of Osceola, who thereby instituted "OSCEOLA"S USER FEE". It goes like this: when riding in Osceola with Mundy is involved, either Mundy or a member of his party will have a close (very close) encounter with a tree. (First victim was Mundy himself. He picked a very large tree- head on with pretty gruesome results). Fast forward to about a year later after Mundy’s encounter. Back to Barry and the merry band of orange riders. On that fateful day they took off with zest and zip, gaily VROOMING through the forest. Jokes aside, these guys are superb riders and the GoPro camera was filming it all. It also filmed, with painful accuracy, Barry’ encounter with OSCEOLA’s CURSE. This time, a really puny tree was involved but a tree nevertheless. Barry tripped on a 1’ twig in the middle of the road, went flying and broke his collar bone. It’s all there in the video, including the muffled sob that escaped Barry’s lips as his clavicle snapped. (Very manly, Barry! ) It’s been a couple of years later now, the clavicle has mended (plus some new hardware in it) and Barry is on his way to being the 2012-13 winner of his hare scramble division. However, Barry is justifiably skittish about putting the camera on the helmet and filming again. I told him it is not the GoPro, it is Osceola’s curse and only applies to federal lands, but I understand Barry’s hesitation. Bottom line: the club has the camera. Which non-racer has the guts to put it on the helmet and go for a spin around our Hare scramble course? I would gladly volunteer for it, but at my speed the camera does not have enough capacity . I think it only holds about 2 hours of filming, and the Saturday course is about 7 miles….

Went out AM to the course after Clint's heart touching appeal to the members last night at the meeting to get out and "ride in" the course. Clint was right on target with his request.
So I loaded up the uber fun and reliable yz125 and rode the Saturday portion today for 5 laps and can attest that first and foremost the members that have been busy working cutting and laying out the course did an awesome job, secondly it does need some ride in. There are some wet spots here and there but they should with luck dry out by race day.
I plan on going out next Wen. 9AM, and plan to ride the long loop for awhile. I missed the separation of Sat/Sun trail today (around mile 3/4??) so i'll be looking forward to getting in the Sunday loop next week. Give me a call if your interested in joining up. Going to shoot for 3-4 laps depending on time available.
