This weekend – despite the backup of the septic system AND the failure of a supply pipe which flooded my weekend home- was a great success. Motocyclistically speaking, at least.
Seldom a person has the chance to realize her dreams. This weekend I came closer to realizing some cherished aspirations.
You have to understand where I am coming from. In the last few years I have practiced and practiced more. Have ridden with the best- starting with my idol Shane Watts; survived many hundreds of miles with kamikaze Mundy; launched bikes too big for me in the wet holes of Osceola and the sandtraps of Ocala.
Neither ice nor ninety degrees weather have deterred my quest for ultimate slowness. I have been confirmed as undisputed Queen of Slow in most counties of Florida and some of Georgia as well. God willing, I will establish new records of slowness in Utah and Colorado this summer- after which I will consider myself satisfied with my accomplishments. Truly a legend in slowness.
Problem is: when one is at the pinnacle of slowness, what is the next challenge? There is no contender for my well deserved records. Nobody will even try. It is lonely at the top.
I have pondered the issue for a while, and came up with a solution.
This God given slowness, this talent which I have so assiduously cultivated, cannot end with me.
I have got to leave a legacy.
Ta daaa: (trumpets please)… Giovanna’s Slowness Academy started this weekend .
Vince came over to help- actually to throttle me back and remind me not to expect too much slowness too soon from my students.
And Alex was supervising the whole ordeal, testing out the trails himself before risking the neck of ALL his children. This man is a true believer in slowness.

I have to admit that I cheated a little, though. As you can see, my first batch of students are young females. Girls generally have more of a natural talent for slowness, however I must say that lovely Chloe – alas- does not have it at all. I will have to work harder with her to develop her slowness.
Bottom line: does anybody have cheap, serviceable bikes for sale, suitable for 10 yr olds? Also helmets and boots. Check your attics and garages let me know. The Slowness Academy may help you with your spring cleaning.
