What I have observed since racing in FTR since 2008 is this. You have to remember that most of the races and racers are from the middle to southern parts of Florida. Wide open cow pastures. High speed, not very technical unless they add a enduro cross section. I would guess 80% of the racers are use to and practice on this type of coarse. I know there is only a few of us in RCDR that race this series and other series and have first hand experience with the lay out and flow of the h/s coarse that are used. H/S are mostly faster flowing wider than average trails. What we and Chipley offer is more of an enduro style coarse. (which all of us enduro racers love). We are fortunate to have a piece of land to offer this. I've never been a big fan of the pasture races, I race them because I have to.
With our race being at the end of the season last year, and past history of being one of the tougher h/s, people didn't need to race our event to secure a championship or show up to better their overall position for year end.
Refunds are always going to happen. There have been races where our group did the practice lap and debated getting a refund due to unsafe conditions. Never did get one though. Some people do and that is OK. I would rather have someone ask for a refund then to push themselves during a race and get hurt because they never settled down into the coarse.
When laying out a mainline of the coarse, look 20' side to side. This is also fair game during a race. Are there hazards? When we have to race on tighter coarse, the faster riders in different classes come up on slower riders more frequently. It gets very very frustrating if there aren't multiple open areas during the coarse or room to safely pass or take an alternate line. I'm not saying these lines need to be manicured, just look for possible hospital trip stuff.
I hope to have my old 2002 wr back together this coming week and be out to give a hand with anything I can do. YES, I sold the KTM350 and went back to my old ways. Love me some Blue!!!!

Is there a flyer/signup sheet out yet that we can post? I did not see one on the FTR web site.

I rode the entire loop on Sunday morning. The changes made to the first section seemed to work out well and keep the riders out of the swamp just outside the pits. There is free standing water all through the loop but nothing that cant be rerouted within 10 or 20 feet from the original trail and most are just puddled up areas. There is however some deep, long stretches of water past the old 6 mile marker plate. Some of this will need to be completely rethought. We will be out there every Sunday until the race. Looks like I will be managing the same section as last year and it doesn't appear to need a whole lot of work. If anyone needs help with something specific they started on a Saturday and would like me to finish on a Sunday, let me know. I am going to start final arrowing from the start to as far in as possible without heat stroke this Sunday. Thanks Don

Last weekend was very productive. Saturday 12 members and Sunday we had 14. Thanks a lot everyone. Got some reroutes nailed down and arrowed, and lots of trimming. Still plenty to do and burning in. See you Sat and Sun. Jim.

CALLING BRIDGE BUILDERS. We need too build a couple of small bridges this weekend. We have 2x6 boards to cut and screw down so if you have a battery screw gun you can have some fun. A generator and circular saw would be an asset also. Generator, deck screws, saw horses and tables are in the trailer. See you at 9 on Sat / Sun.

Good turnout at this weekend prep for the upcoming Hare Scramble. This guy looks so awesome! (I have to be nice to Don because at this moment my pumpkin is in his shop...) The intrepid RCD Riders showed up to do what they do the best: schmooze with each other. (The arrows point to the swimming pool, not shown in the pic). Clint (on makeshift stage) provided the entertainment (imitation of Marylin Monroe? Sharon Stone ?? Good moves, Clint) Then Jim showed off his machete handling skills (I see a great future for him at Benihana- OR- promoting ginzu knives on late night TV). Some riders showed off their new bikes for the racing season: Hard to start this puppy if you do not remove the butt plug first… (oops, did I say that?) Overheard from the poster child for rider safety: “we are in the southeast corner so just take this trail out of the parking lot then turn northwest at the barbed wire fence then ride east west then turn at the bridge, open the gate… hell, just follow me!” (Should have added: “Ozzie, put some gas in the darn bike first!” har har har) Anyway… The course is drying out very nicely, reroutes are almost complete and in the next few days we’ll have earth moving equipment come in to do the heavy lifting, i.e., lop off the teeth jarring ridgelines. It will be a much more fun and flowing course- a good start for the 2013-14 racing season. See you next weekend!

Wow , what a day at the farm on Saturday. We had 22 members show up to play. Miller's worked on the enduro cross and guys were arrowing and burning in. Nice overcast day so it wasn't so hot. Nice to see some guys like Rich Brew , Mark Wolff , and Vince who I haven't seen in while. Come on out on Sunday I am sure you will have some fun and get to ride !!!

Just 6 of us today, Jim Sparks, Don, Smitty, Ozzy, Tim Mosley, and me. Dug in a bunch of 4X4's for double greens in the new fields and got some arrows up. Thanks Mark for mowing yesterday and everyone's hard work. Trail coming together nicely, reroutes are high and dry and the machinery has leveled some of the pine rows. See you next weekend, I plan on Sat and Sun 9 AM.

A reminder to everyone to shut the gate when you enter or leave the property. The gate was wide open when I left on Saturday around 2pm. The cows were loose on Saturday and we sure don't want one wandering out on to the road. That would probably end our use of this property.

Actually Rick, I was probably the guilty party Saturday afternoon around that time. I was asked to leave it open by direction of folks hauling farm supplies in. Should I have closed it after they told me not to?
I won't be free to help out this weekend, but I have the end of the month free to lend a hand again. See you out there on the 31'st.
