Everyone in Salt Springs is waiting for the new Pizza Place moving into Salty's with baited breath. Apparently it is the same Pizza Place as over in Astor? I miss Salty's. There is also that place up 19, used to be the Frontier, now called Highway 19. I have eaten there twice, pretty good pulled pork and burger. Nice people too.
I rode Ocala yesterday, Sat the 15th and also rode earlier in the week the 11th and 12th. Yesterday was good but it is definitely starting to dry out, the marked OHV trails were rideable but not fun, the fire roads and intermediate trails were still great, firm and many had ZERO evidence of any tire marks, great day. Earlier in the week, right after the rain the conditions were AMAZING. Better than I have ever seen in 5 years riding here, even the Delancy loop and Big and Little Scrub were great, lots of fun.
I rode wayyyy down South this week, there are so many small trails down there South of Bombing range. I also rode up North near Hog Valley, and down the Ockla river. I could tell by the end of yesterday it was getting dry and hot, some more rain will make it firm up a bit.
Anyway, if you are riding this week let me know, I'll take a drive up and ride. I am in Vero Beach so it's a quick trip for me.

I am going to ONF this week, tomorrow Thursday the 20th for a few days if anyone wants to ride. Unless there has been rain I will stay south and west, away from the trails. Still plenty of places to ride without the sand. Let me know if interested

Hang on ! We are halfway through hunting season which this year is 2+ weeks longer than usual. (Why? ) On the weekends the woods are thick with armed people and their dogs. But during the week it is not so dangerous. Today Mr. D and John went for a 70+ mile ride in the forest. It was dry and fluffy, but they had a blast. I stayed home and worked, and then had to listen to their stories when they came back... excruciating! Guided rides will resume after the end of the hunting season. In the meantime, if anybody want to ride the woods during the week, give us a shout.

Absolutely SPEC-TA-CULAR riding in Ocala National Forest today! It was worth the days of rain to make the trails super-rideable. Anybody wanting to ride with D during the week, let us know.(Sorry, tagged bikes only).

Rode Ocala today with the two amigos (Aka Silver Tigers).
Very very fluffy. This is not a good time to go if you do not have the right tires and experience riding on sand (more like controlled drifting). We need rain badly!
We found were the Rainbow People are hanging out. Going through their camp was a surreal experience. Kind of "Deliverance meets Woodstock".
As long as they do not burn down the forest and leave their site clean (HA!) I do not have a problem with them.
We also rode by the site of Clint's accident. It looks like a bomb went off . There are pieces of bike and truck everywhere. No sign of the truck having made any effort not to hit Clint.
I found in the weeds a piece of Clint's plastic with the bike model on it. Surreal.
Be careful out there!

Is anyone riding the forest? I rode Tuesday, Wed and a little this morning. It is weird with everything being shut down, the campgrounds, parks, everything. No one on the trails either, at least that I could tell. I rode south and west, found some great new trails over by the lakes just East of 314A, great little trails not too sandy either.
The only places to eat are the new pizza place and the Square Meal, both take out only. Bass Champions is closed, spoke to JL he said he didn't know how ling before they open back up.
I will be back up next week of anyone wants to ride.

It finally rained in Ocala NF. 1.5 much needed inches (no jokes please). It stopped around noon, the temperature was perfect and the sun came out. Hypothetically speaking, somebody in the area could have stopped working around 3, hopped on the bike and gone for 37 exhilarating miles in the forest. The trails would have been wonderfully "tacky". Wurr! Braap! All hypthetical of course because the forest is officially "closed". All 380,000 acres of it. But hunting and fishing are still allowed... how??? One of our best rides EVER ! Hypothetically of course.

Ocala National Forest is officially opened again. This weekend there are swarms of four wheelers and side by sides tearing up forest roads where they should not be.
The forest is very very very dry and there are still lots of big trees down.
You are not going to like it much if you do not have sand tires, know how to ride on sand (or at least, crash gracefully as I do) and do not know where to go.
I will post when the trails are good again.
Pray for rain and lots of it.

We got some rain in Ocala and the trails have improved a lot. Not perfect but overall rideable. We had a good time today. Yesterday Mr. D literally ran into Mundy and Mark (the "M" duo) on the trails. Don't be shy. Contact D. if you want to ride - he does it every other day rain or shine because the doctor recommended it! (That's Doktor Queen of Slow, of course). I have to work during the week, unfortunately. Doctor Doug, the other half of the Silver Tigers, has freshened up the Pony, my Ktm-Honda. Now the new cams give the Pony a lively mid-range. Fun!The Pony also has new shoes now. I kept the old rear sand paddle, which is free to anybody who wants to try it on sand. It's not as good as a fresh tire, but still better than a dual sport tire, or a pure MX tire. Let me know if you want it. I also put on a new front tire: it is a Goldentire. I like it, but not as much as the Fatty Tire I have on the Pumpkin. That is a major game changer on sand! Your front end stays where you put it! A novel idea for me. But hey, if it is good enough for Graham Jarvis and Taddy Blasuziak, it has got to be good enough for me!
