My son and I are looking to join RCDR this Saturday at the upcoming sound testing. I was pointed your way by the folks at Jacksonville Powersports. My son got a 07 CRF50 for Christmas and I've taught him how to ride over the last 7 months, but mainly in the neighborhood. I do not have a dirt bike but an "ADV", a V-Strom 1000. I have crash bars and knobbies on my bike. We have 0 off road experience. I am looking to help him evolve in his riding and hopefully improve my handling of my 500lb behemoth off road. I do have a few questions about the lease and your policies if anyone is able to answer them
1) I saw some videos online of tight singletrack trails through a field of palmetto bushes. Are all the trails like this? Or are there more open ones? My concern is my Vstrom won't fit.
2) How busy are the trail and/or how fast is the pace through the club? I'm concerned I will be super slow and hold up other riders
3) What is the mimimum safety gear? My son has a helmet, googles and gloves but no "off road pants and boots" yet. I am in the same boat but I do have CE rated street boots I can wear in the interim. Are neck rolls, roost guards, etc required?
4)I want to pass all the inspection and testing this Saturday. I saw they do a sound test, require a spark arrestor and header wrap on bikes over 110. Both of our bikes are stock. I don't think there should be an issue with sound. As for spark arrestor, I don't think either bikes need one as they are stock exhaust right? Lastly header wrap, Most of my exhaust is hidden by bodywork except a small section of the front header. I went ahead and wrapped that part. The rear cylinder/header is under the seat/tank and complete. Would this be OK?
Again, complete noob in the off road department so I apologize if any of these questions are dumb.
Also, as I know someone will mention it, Yes I know I need a proper offroad/trail bike. I plan on getting one within the next 3-6 months. I just don't want to stifle my son's riding while I wait for my finances to be right. Plus it gives me the opportunity to be the weird guy who ACTUALLY takes his ADV off road
Thank you
