Notes from monthly meeting 7/9/19
As normal for this time of the year, there were fewer members in attendance.
Races for 2020: Don is talking to FTR about changing the date of our 2020 hare scramble at Gatorback, from second last to last on the racing calendar. This would give us a chance to put together a major shindig with live music, fun run, extra activities such as mud sliding down the hills (clothing optional- JUST KIDDING!) which would increase attendance and revenue.
Organization for 2020 HS and enduro: these events will have two coordinators each. The main coordinator- an experienced member who has done it before- and an assistant slave driver in the process of learning the ropes. We need to teach more members how to put together these events, deepen the talent bench and lighten the load for the “oldies” such as Don and Barry 😉
Work day at the lease had good attendance and all planned maintenance was completed. Congrats and thanks to Mundy, clocking his millionth work day for the club. John B is working on his 1,000 day record as well.
The deal with North Florida Motocross in Hilliard has been confirmed for 2020. A new on-line registration form is being worked on. More details soon. Don is also exploring the possibility of a motocross event to be held there independently of the FTR racing calendar. However, we need to make sure the date does not conflict with FTR events. Don believes that the event may bring additional revenues and exposure.
A new web site is being developed by Nate Tucei. It will combine the information in our facebook page and the current web site. It will have useful features such as download of membership forms, on line payment of dues, reservations at motocross track, profiles of board members (with mug shots and rap sheets) etc etc. If you have any ideas or requests, please contact Nate.
Upcoming elections in September. All current board members have expressed an interest in staying on 😊 but nominations are also encouraged. Please contact Don.
Presentation on security issues. Don presented useful information about how to reduce the chances of having one’s bike stolen. Dirt bikes are in demand, with significant increases in new bike sales, but bike thefts are also on the increase. Suggestions:
• Secure the bike with a chain or cable TO THE TRUCK or trailer when leaving the rig unattended
• Secure the trailer to the towing vehicle with a lockable device.
• Avoid conspicuous markings, decals etc on your vehicle and/or trailer which would suggest that bikes are inside.
• When parking overnight, park in a well lit area, and back the trailer to a wall, fence etc. so the trailer door cannot be opened without moving the vehicle and trailer first.
• At home, make sure the garage door can be locked to the frame/rail. Also lock the firedoor between the garage and the rest of the house.
• Insure the bike for “comprehensive” coverage. It is inexpensive and well worth it. Advise the agent about any extras you may have which increase the value of the bike, such as fancy pipes, Rekluse, etc.
• Make sure the paperwork is current and the bike is titled to you, especially If your bike is not tagged (=street legal)
• Avoid “advertising” your possessions, i.e. leaving the garage door open for any length of time, washing the bike in front of the house etc.
• If you do not have a real alarm system, install cheap fake cameras over the garage etc.
• Install on the trailer door the Blaylock “puck” lock. See at
Hint: do NOT loose the key!
Different format for next meetings. Potential members will be requested to show up early so they can get the whole introductory spiel without holding up the regular meeting.
And that’s all folks.. until next time
