FTR Hare scramble race at Hog Waller (south of Palatka) organized by Azalea Motorcycle Club. Great weather for racing. Light drizzle and overcast skies. The rain stopped as soon as I bought two ponchos (never fails).
One half of the Silver Tigers made his first appearance of the 2019-2020 season. (The other half is still in Michigan). For the occasion, Mr D had shined “Stinky” to a sparkle, which alas did not last long in the bog. Technical note: to prepare for the race Mr D had even epoxyed the sole of his boot to the rest of it (no expense is spared for the Silver Tigers!), and the repair held for most of the race. We’ll try JB Weld next- maybe we will get a sponsorship out of it.
Silver Tiger relaxing after practice- a zen moment.
Other RCDR members raced on Saturday, and more will race tomorrow. The Saturday course (I am told) was very challenging: sandy, rutted and full of roots. The Sunday course will be even tougher, since it about the same used for the GNCC races. Yikes! I do not know how the A riders fly over it. I suspect it is proof of parallel universes. Note to self: I must start riding in the “other” one.
It is good to see father and son racing. Here are Mr. Miller Jr. (“Barry”) and Mr. Miller Jr.Jr. (“Andrew”); and Mr. Sessions (“Jason”) and Mr. Sessions Jr. (“Jack”).
(Technical question. Does wearing leg leotards make one go faster? What about a tutu? Inquiring minds need to know.)
Andrew and Jack discuss strategies…
Start of Beginners class
And they are off!
Our president Don Learn graciously agreed to help our friends at Azalea and swept for them. Good job Don, very appreciated!
The RCDR folks did quite well. Barry placed third and Jason placed fourth in Sportsman 2, a very deceiving category for a highly competitive bunch of riders. They may be sportsmen, but they go stinking fast, in a sportsman way of course (whatever that means). Jack Sessions and Mr D each placed ninth in their respective classes.
I would like to point out that Mr. D, a few weeks shy of his 65th birthday, successfully completed three full laps of his second HS ever. He never fell, no bike damage and he lost a few minutes helping other riders who had crashed badly. I am very proud of him.
Congratulations to ALL our riders today (apologies if I have missed anybody), and best of luck to the RCDR members who will race tomorrow! Have fun and ride safe.
