A tale of two weekends at Gatorback- preparing for our 2021 Hare Scramble
A group of sturdy RCDR members (most over 50- i.e., in their prime) showed up to prepare the course for our upcoming hare scramble at Gatorback. Hold the date: April 17 and 18.
Spoiler alert: those who loved the 2019 course will not be disappointed! This year’ course will be a little less frightening, but probably more fun for the average human.
The weekend of March 27 and 28 was warm and sunny. Pleasantly very warm. Here are some photos.
The weekend of April 3 and 4 was sunny and chilly! Beautiful weather for working, though. Here are more photos of the hardy souls who showed up last Saturday.
My girlfriend Paula came to help with her truck, trailer and quad.
She is a worker who will back down at nothing. Good, because this was her first time at RCDR and she was a "little" perplexed by Mundy....
She had asked me what to bring and I had told her “a stapler”. I should have been a little more specific, though.
This is what she brought.
Paula, I am not laughing at you! I am laughing at myself, remembering my own early days with RCDR. Many fun stories, some of which I can tell you after the statute of limitations has expired.
The first part of the hare scramble is scrambling to put it together. This year we got a late start and fewer volunteers. Mundy is spazzing more than usual, so please come and help this next weekend! We literally need everybody and everybody’s spouse, brother, sister, dog etc.etc. Anybody willing to help is more than welcome!
Show up at Gatorback this coming weekend by 8:30 am. Bring loppers, stapler, hat, comfortable shoes or boots. Bike or quad or side by side will be helpful. A bicycle with trail tires would also work.
We will assign you to an experienced team leader. Follow your leader like a puppy and do not stray. There are HUGE hidden sinkholes and we are not equipped for spelunking rescues.
Above all- do not argue with Mundy! Ever!!!
Anybody who needs instructions as to how to get to Gatorback, what to bring etc. contact Mundy at 904-465-2013 and leave message if he is not immediately responding.
We also need help with ALL jobs on the weekend of the race. Don’t be bashful: it is a LOT of fun and you will get to see some amazing riders in action up close.
See you all next weekend!
