The plan for the second part of the trip was to ride the trail areas east of Nantahala, i.e. Wayhutta OHV, Enoree OHV and Brushy Mountain. Alas, it was not to be. All three were closed due to heavy rains and washouts. Darn. So, we came up with an alternate plan and decided to go home by the way of Highland Park which was open, although a bit beaten up by the rains as well.
Luckily a cabin was available, due to a last minute cancellation.
They must have heard that the Team Silver Tigers was on its way and gotten scared. With good reason.
See, looks are deceiving. The photos shows two mature gentlemen with an old dog. But in reality Team Silver Tigers was getting ready to pounce and show the locals a thing or two about riding rock, clay and steep trails.
Of course, the dogs and I were there to provide technical assistance.
We lucked out. We could not have had better weather. It was sunny, crisp, clear and dry. More like Colorado than Georgia.
I rolled over all three MX tracks, one of which was rather scary. But I needed to make sure they were safe for the Silver Tigers.
This is the real “majestic” style of riding motocross. I bet they had never seen it before.
(I was so glad I survived those downhills! I was SO AFRAID that I would get low-centered on the cusp of those steep jumps. They are so hard to roll over!)
See Doug? All you have to do is to keep both wheels on the ground at all times…
OK boys, your turn, now…
But nooo, the Tigers did not listen. They had to show off with some air
and then they headed to the trails.
I circled around in the perimeter road a few times (the hill climb and the stepped downhill are NOT easy!) and tried a couple of two-diamond trails. That was plenty for me, as I wanted to keep my shoulder bones in their proper sockets.
Back to the cabin, a bit worn out but rather happy. Note that the hanging towels are placeholders for the future commercial endorsements which we are negotiating. (Right now "Depends" has a pretty good offer...).
Helping Doug put the sand tires back on the Pony before heading back to Flatistan.
and also replacing a rear rotor. I have been told I wore out the old one (only 1.5 yrs old). I think they were joking, but the old rotor makes horrible grinding noises, so time for a change.
We had a great trip. No people or bikes were harmed when making this movie (Can’t say the same about the trails, though...).
Looking forward to the next adventure of the Team Silver Tigers. As Doug said….
"Who knew that getting old
would be so much fun!"
