Well, they are back at it again!
Yesterday was the day. Mr. HumptyDumpty was finally back together again, and Queenof slow was at her splendid slow best. What a day for a gentle ride to the ferry on the St. Johns.
Some background. Darrell's cast on his hand had finally been removed and the hand was feeling better. After his catastrophic accident last year the doctors had been concentrating in rebuilding his leg, and basically ignored his complaining abut the hand. Many months and surgeries later the leg was fine, but his right hand was still extremely painful. Finally the doctors decided to take his complaints seriously and found a broken bone inside the hand. By now it had been so long that part of the bone had died and he ended up needing more serious surgery, a bone graft, and eight weeks in a cast. Marvels of modern medicine. But at least he can finally use his right hand again, although the doctor admonished him: no motocross!
As to myself, this spring I celebrated my 65th birthday by tearing my meniscus. Nothing heroic. I just tripped in my kitchen. (Which goes to prove my mother was right when she implored me to stay out of the kitchen!!! in more ways than one). Not a big tear but considering surgery. After limping for a few weeks I fixed the problem my own way: by unloading about 1000 pounds of vinyl floor planks up several steps in my new rental. (Yes, I was pissed off at the moment- can you tell?). For some reason my knee is now almost normal- no endoscopic surgery, no rehab therapy. It is just a little chancy at dismounting from the bike- the knee may or may not hold and toppling is a possibility. But hey- life is a glorious adventure or nothing- right?
Bottom line: all is well in Salt Springs. No bikes were harmed in the making of this movie. Back in the saddle and back at it!
See you all soon.
