I went out during the week, late Wednesday afternoon, and the parking lot was flooded. To be fair, there had been two days of rain. Pat

Special thanks to Mike Hathaway and Chris Blake today for helping with the enduroX section. Its all in place, now we just need to anchor everything together and add the dirt to the face and backside of the larger obstacles. Several others stopped in to help as well, which was much appreciated (Andy, Keith, Jim).

Meeting at Spencer Farms on Sunday about 9 to ride and evaluate the existing course. You'll see an entrance 3 miles south of Normandy, on CR217, with a windmill and a camper (orange arrows also posted). Enter through the gate, close it behind you, and look (left) south across the field and we will meet there. Clint Very wet today at the ranch, pretty much the same as Sunday. Aki

This is the last weekend before the Sept 7th and 8th event. Several members are meeting a Famous Amos on Saturday at 8 before getting back to the ranch. We have had spectacular participation on weekends for the month of August and lots good times with friends and bikes. So if you have some time over the next three days come on out and have some fun !!!

Lacey Nordle, an FTR racer, sent word on Facebook about 15 minutes ago that an FTR referee had announced that HS#1 in Maxville has been cancelled? Is that right? No mention of it here or on the FTR page.

Yes, it is cancelled due to all the rain. Had a few more inches of rain on it last night and after being there today the club has decided it would not be good for us or the safety of the racers to have it next weekend. Barry and some others are going to try to get a date in the near future.

I hate to hear that, but it's the right decision. I was wondering after I saw all the water from DJ's helmet cam the last trip out there.

apparently someone in the club has to notify the FTR business manager or FTR president and say the race is being cancelled. some FTR people are on facebook complaining that posting on the forum and stuff isn't official and are saying that it's not cancelled because nothing's official enough for them

I am sure that our HS Committee folks are talking with FTR about a replacement date. BTW, the Club whose race comes right after ours is also having "water problems". It is not just us.
Hopefully we will not get a replacement date too far at the tail end of the season, when attendance is lower and it is tough to recoup our expenses.
Some food for thought: we seem to be in a wet cycle
2011 HS - first race of the season, late August, Lake City Motocross Park. Very wet, continuous reroutes in the prep phase, uncertain up to the Wednesday prior whether the race would take place at all. Mundy pulled it through by using the motocross and supercross tracks for mileage. We lucked out by the scruff of the neck. The week afterwards, the entire place was under water.
In 2012 we had had a wonderful dry spring and a great Black Bear dual sport ride, but at the end of May it started to rain with TS Debbie and... it never stopped!
2012 HS- again first race of the season, late August, Lake City Motocross Park. We decided at the end of July that the race would have to be postponed because the ground was so saturated at that time that there was no hope it would dry up in August.
That race eventually took place at the end of April 2013 at the Spencer's property in Maxville, with average attendance for that late in the season. This means that while we had great fun preparing for and holding the race, financially our efforts did not bring in the revenue we need to support the club's activities such as paying for the lease.
HS of the 2013-2014 racing season. Scheduled again for the Maxville property (which is one of the driest pieces of land available!!!) but postponed because of water saturation. This year it started to rain in April and it has not yet stopped.
Unfortunately scheduling a race is becoming tougher every passing year. There are competing and conflicting considerations:
- FTR's priorities and allocations of dates to the clubs (we are the tail, not the body of the dawg!) - more clubs wanting racing dates - difficulty in finding enough acreage which can be permitted for racing - conflict of prime racing dates (November, December and January) with hunting season - a weather pattern of rain, rain and more darn rain.
I am not bellyaching, just wanted to explain the challenges that our HS racing committee has to face. It ain't easy!
Thanks to all for your efforts, and stay tuned.....

Just received word that our new date for the Hare Scramble has been approved. November 23-24 are the new race dates. This is the weekend before Thanksgiving (and Mini O's). This means the work days will be starting back up again, so final preparations can be made. While the course and property were well prepared leading up to the original date, there is still quite a bit of help needed.
Stay tuned to the forum for updates on work days and event prep.

I've started a new thread for news about the new HS date. Please use that thread for updates on the HS.
