Time is ticking away and May 4 will be here before we know it.
Look for info soon on work days at the Enduro location.
Jeremy and I will be putting together plans over the next few weeks. Then the fun will begin.

Are we still putting on the race? Nothing at the last meeting and nothing on the boards. I figured we would be working the property by now--

The race is still on. Unfortunately, we can't start working at the property until two weeks prior to the event. We only get 3 weekends and that includes the event weekend. For this reason, we will need everyone's help all three weekends. Glenn Hunt is the trail boss and will be recruiting and organizing help for the event. I'm going to suggest that at least a handful of us meet the weekend before work begins and make sure all the equipment and supplies are restocked and in good working condition. This will allow the section leaders to start strategizing as well. With such limited time, we can't afford any down time.
Stay tuned.....

We have the following workdays approved by SJWMP: Apr 5-6, Apr 19-20, Apr 26-27 (Apr 12-13 is Spring Turkey season) Race weekend May 2-4 Clean-up, if needed May 10
Please mark your calendars and help out as much as you can. We have approximately 30 miles of trail to arrow and trim back, and only 3 weekends to do it. If the temperature continues like it has, it should be good for working.
Keep an eye on this thread, as we will keep everyone updated through it, and occasionally via a mass email.

If anyone has not received the mass email sent out, here is what you missed:
This Saturday morning will be the first work day. the GPS coordinates for the race is as follows:
N 29.32393 W 81.53319
This is the right turn off of 305 and the camp is about 1/4 of a mile north on the left. Do not drive into the field too far. Stay near the main road. Allen got his truck stuck very bad last Saturday just driving to the back on the camp area to check out some of the woods next to the camp. Took a 4 wheel drive large tractor to retrieve his truck.
We are planing to meet at 9 AM and hit the trails by 10 AM at the latest. We need to give Allen Pearce a little time to check out a few of the high ground areas first. Allen will be at the trails earlier and once he confirms the high ground areas are connectable we will depart to work clearing those first. The thought is that we will clear trail that we know will be used and concentrate our efforts to work as efficiently as we can. While we are clearing those trials he will connect them by marking. Plan is by the time we finish the day we should have enough that on Sunday we can start to burn that trial in.
Update for bikes to the property: This first day we may need for some 4 wheel drive trucks to get to a few spots with our cutting equipment. If you have a mud truck or Gator please bring it. On Sunday bring your motorcycles as well. The plan is to clear enough trail on Saturday that we will need to begin to ride some. Like cut trail on Sunday in the AM and ride after lunch.
So far I only have 8 confirmed for Saturday. Please let me know if you are planning to attend so we will not leave before you arrive.
Items needed for Saturday:
Cutting blades, A Ditch Band Blade is the best (in my opinion) Weed eater with a chain saw blade machete any cutting blade Water Lunch food Lots of energy
Items needed for Sunday:
Cutting blades, A Ditch Band Blade is the best (in my opinion) Weed eater with a chain saw blade machete any cutting blade Water Lunch food Lots of energy Motorcycles
Thanks

Good day yesterday at the Enduro Work day 1. My head count was 19 working.
Looks like a little rain last night, but that will not stop us today.
Come on down and help get this trail ready. Alan and I learned a lot late afternoon of the places we can not go. We also found a few places we can go so today we should be able to tie it all together.

Trail Report from Sunday's Workday:
Great job by all. Sunday we had 6 groups on different sections of the trails. All cutting, arrowing & connecting the trails together. We now have the first section from the camp out established, about 8 miles maybe. The last section back to the camp done as well, about 10 miles maybe. Remaining is 3 to 4 small sections of trail on the north side of the property and we will use roads to connect those with the first and last sections. I think we have 85% of the trail established this first weekend.
Next workday is April 19. A few will be at the trails on Friday the 18th, but no motorcycle or ATV in the woods. A tagged vehicle can go on the roads, but not on any area that has a white sign posted. Walk only in those areas, so you can walk to cut/arrow only in the woods.
Again great job by all and we are much further along the process than I thought we would be. Still a lot of work left for sure, but we will be able to begin riding to burn in the trails by the 20th.
Thanks to all for your patience, commitment and understanding so far.

Sulphur powder mixed with a little baby powder and pour into sock, tie knot in top and dust your clothes, boots will keep chiggers and ticks off. All natural, works on pets too.

I am planning on working the weekend of 19th and 20th. Is it ok to camp there Friday night? I was going to drive the RV there that night and stay for the weekend. Any advice where to park the RV?

A reminder to all about the workdays this weekend. It is Easter Weekend and I know many have family plans. for those that can make it down to the Eagles Nest Enduro the following is for you.
We have maps of the proposed route. We also have the GPS track of the trail.
We plan on being there this Friday and Saturday. I may not be there Sunday. I welcome anyone who can come out Friday to work. Allen has added a significant amount of trail in the middle of the property after reviewing the locations of the Eagle nests in that area.*Remember that we can not use motorcycles or ATVs on Friday, but can on Saturday and Sunday*.
We will bring copies of the map for everyone as well as a new large map showing just the proposed trail. See y’all this weekend.
FYI: The rain forecast is high for Saturday, but looks like it will be light. Be prepared. it should be cooler than if the sun was out. lol.
Allen Pearce Glenn Hunt
In case you need directions to the camp; GPS coordinates for the race is as follows:
N 29.32393 W 81.53319
This is the right turn off of 305 and the camp is about 1/2 of a mile north on the left just after the fenced in area. Also you can go west from the blinking caution light in Seville, FL.

Additionally, the route is now at 24 miles in length and we need to clear about 8 miles of brush. I talked with Barry this morning and he will have at the property 2 ea 24" wide walk behind brush mowers. This will help ease the task of getting the low brush out of the way so the riders, and us, can see the dirt. After all, if you can see the dirt you can ride fast / safe. Another way to look at it is that if I can see that root I can get ready for it vs hit it and then hang on in an attempt to save the crash.

Probably redundant but please mark up the maps as to where the mini bush hogs and trimming are needed. I plan to be there Sunday. Thanks.

Trail Work Report:
I am glad to report that 96% of the trail clearing work is done. Items remaining are being done today by the 5 working today (Sunday 4/20).
Friday we had 14 and Saturday we had 12 working to finish up the heavy trail cutting work. The trail is completed and connected. The route is now ready to be burnt in. The arrows are complete except for the wrong ways and Dangers. The group being lead by Aki today will complete that.
What's next? Good question. Ride!
We need all the bikes and riders that we can get to ride the course. We need to ride and tune up the trail next Saturday 4/26 and Sunday 4/27. Tune up, as I call it, is to cut any remaining face slapper limbs (if you have something obstruct your sight of the trail near you eyes then it is a face slapper - cut it) , and smoothing out turns that seam awkward ( you run by the arrowed trail or the turn is so sharp that you may stall your engine). Minor adjustments to make the trail flow is needed. Also, as you ride if you can see places that would invite a short cut please ID it and see if it makes sense to correct those spots. If you are not sure check with the section leaders before re-routing the trail. We have to stay relatively close to the GPS route we turned into the Saint Johns Water District.
Section leaders are as follows:
Start to 8.0 miles - Barry Miller 8.0 to 16.0 miles - Glenn Hunt 16.0 to 25.4 - Rick Chapple
Next Saturday we need to bring bikes and ride. This is your chance to have fun and enjoy the hard work already done. It is dry for the most part and even with the rain this past few days a little dust was kicked up yesterday afternoon. We rode the complete loop for the GPS routing to turn into the Saint Johns Water District management on Monday. Once they review that we will know if any re-routing will be needed and plan to do those on Saturday morning.
Saturday afternoon I would like to ride the trail for time. That is I need a few riders, of different speeds to ride the trail at race pace. I would like to begin that around 1 PM. If you want to do this let me know. I will have clocks and will start each group into and out of each trail section. I will give instructions at each of the 3 sections before starting you into that section.
Sunday work is to set the mileage, route sheet, Checks and resets. Allen and I will be doing that all day. I would like to have the section leaders and at least 1 more to ride there sections. That way they can help with the location and aid getting the checks in and out crews assigned. Additionally, they will need clean up riders for each section.
We are very close to being ready and look forward to a very large group both of the 2 remaining workdays. See you there at 9 AM on both days.

We worked the first field crossing today. It was staked/arrowed by Jim, the trail was cleared and burned in through the field. No issues getting lost there any more. Quite a many wrong way signs were posted and some arrows in the confusing sections. Jim and his son blocked many potential shortcut spots. Several stumps were painted. The trail measured 26.5 miles, I rode it through in the end of the day and I can easily do it in less than an hour, which is fast for me. I think the main issue left to do is the potential short cuts. Also, I don't know if they will still be there later, but I spotted a total of 4 dogs laying on the trail in different areas.
